What Can You Expect From a Skin Camouflage Consultation?

*** This article has been updated to include information about face-to-face consultations during the COVID-19 restrictions in place as at August 2020. This may be subject to further change as the situation evolves and/or relaxes. Note that the highest levels of hygiene and cleanliness are always standard at Skin Confident. ***

You may have tried your hand at various things to cover up your skin concern, but you’ve decided that it may be time to get some professional help… but is it really going to be worth it? And what does a skin camouflage consultation involve? This short article is aimed to provide you with some answers and hopefully take away any anxiety you may have around it.

  1. How long will the consultation take?

A consultation lasts for approximately 90 minutes. This may seem like a long time, but it is important to me that we have enough time to thoroughly discuss your requirements, and are not rushed into a recommendation that won’t be what you want in the long term.

  • What happens during the consultation?

First of all you will have the chance to tell me as much or as little about your condition and how it affects your life. I mainly need to know how you will want to use the products, and in what circumstances – e.g. for sports, at the beach, for special occasions, for every day… I will need to understand how easy it is for you to reach the area in questions and whether you will easily be able to apply products. We may need to adapt the application technique accordingly.

I work with a range of different brands, and we will likely try a few different ones to make sure we find the best one tailored to you.

By the end of the session we will have agreed on the best colour match for you, and I will have given you recommendations for the products as well as any tools, remover and potentially sun screen, skin care or scar management products I think could help. I will also have taught you how best to apply the product to achieve long-lasting results that you can easily recreate at home. You will have had a chance to try the application process yourself, so that you will know exactly what to do after the consultation.

If you want, we can take before/after photos for you to show others, and also to get a more objective view of what others see (this can be very different to what you see in the mirror!)

If you want, I can order products for you and they can be sent directly to you.

  • What happens after the consultation?

I will follow up in writing with a report setting out my recommendations to you, so that you can source the products yourself if you wish, and you have a reference for the future. I will also set out the technique recommended for you in a simple step-by-step guide so that you can refer to that at home and don’t have to remember everything I said to you.

  • Where will the consultation take place?

As a general rule, the consultation will take place in my consultation room at 68 Lombard Street, EC3V 9LJ. It is a two- minute walk from Bank station.

The building is a mixed-use office building which I share with many other services and business. I occupy a room which is private, and flooded with light, to provide the best possible conditions for the consultation.

  • What about COVID precautions?

The current government guidelines allow for treatments of the body, torso and limbs to go ahead, and treatments of the face will be allowed as of 1st August.  Given the nature of the service it will not be possible to keep the 2-metre social distance between us during treatment, but close contact will be kept as minimal as possible. In addition, weather permitting, the window will be left open to allow for good ventilation (please bring an extra layer of clothing if you think this may be an issue).

All the usual precautions will apply: washing hands, using hand sanitiser, no contact between clients, coming on your own unless strictly necessary etc.

You will be asked to sing a consent form before your appointment to ensure that you are 100% clear on when you should not come in.  Please err on the side of caution!

Please see our [Risk Assessment] and [Covid Policies and procedures] for more information.

Providing long-lasting and water-proof results, these products empower you to lead your life the way you wish to. Not allowing your scars to become a source of inhibition, these products give you the sense of optimism we all need.
